NSW visitor economy industries applaud close engagement with NSW Government

Media Release 1st November 2019

The heads of the leading NSW visitor economy industry associations have collectively applauded the NSW Government for its close and frank engagement with them and their sectors in recent weeks.

Accommodation Association of Australia (AAoA) CEO Dean Long, Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) CEO Jayson Westbury, Tourism Accommodation Australia NSW (TAA NSW) CEO Michael Johnson and Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF) CEO Margy Osmond welcomed this collaboration and understanding of the importance of the visitor economy.

“The NSW Government’s active engagement with both us and our members has been warmly received and has directly resulted in a series of in-principle commitments to help ensure that our tourism, travel and accommodation sectors can keep delivering for this critical tourism state,” TTF CEO Margy Osmond said.

TAA NSW CEO Michael Johnson agreed, stating, “sitting down with the NSW Premier, NSW Deputy Premier, NSW Treasurer and NSW Tourism Minister in recent weeks has provided a renewed opportunity to raise key issues and challenges for our sectors.”

The AAoA’s Dean Long added that, “there was an appreciation of the industry’s desire for a consistent long-term model to work with the NSW Government via the establishment of a permanent Tourism Working Group and a whole-of-government approach to cover the future infrastructure needs of our industry.”

AFTA CEO Jayson Westbury added that “the discussions also included an awareness of the importance of destination marketing funding particularly to regional NSW and to the attraction and retention of major and business events and to the pipeline of future investment into this State.”

The Group looks forward to continuing this close engagement with the NSW Government with the next meeting slated for early 2020.
